Upcoming Event: Pleasanton Ridge Hike
Now that you are Life rank, I want to give you some information that will help get you started on your most significant rank in Scouting - Eagle! Your next step is to start preparing for your project by doing some brainstorming and then setting up a meeting with our District Eagle Coordinator.
.
I've included a link here to the Guide to Advancement that provides great detail and context for this next step in your Scouting journey.

Here are a few links that may help you in your initial brainstorming about the type of project you would like to tackle.

Many of our recent Eagles have done projects for local schools and community organizations. Check with your current or former principals and organization leaders if they have projects that they would appreciate an Eagle candidate taking on. Your project selection will need to be approved for being of Eagle caliber and must provide sufficient complexity and opportunity for leadership.
After you have thought about your next steps a little, you will want to have a meeting with our District Eagle Coordinator, Mrs. Jill Zollinger. Don't wait too long, and don't think you have to have a concrete plan before having this meeting. Mrs. Zollinger will walk you through the Eagle process in extensive detail - don't forget a paper and pen to take lots of notes.

Definitely check out her website to request an open time slot to have your Eagle Packet review meeting. She has a calendar to the right on the front page of the website that shows current availability. Find a time that works for you and fits the schedule, then send her an email introducing yourself and requesting the meeting. Check back to her calendar regularly when you get closer to wanting to meet with her.
The other role you need to consider is who you would like to have as your Eagle Coach. The key point of the Coach is to assist you in complying with the processes and standards of the Eagle Service Project through their intimate understanding of the requirements. They serve to encourage—not direct—you to make the kinds of decisions that will lead to successful outcomes. The Twin Valley District has elected to use Unit volunteers to serve in this capacity, under the direction and training of Mrs. Zollinger. I've copied the link to her website for your review which outlines the Eagle Project process that your Coach will help you navigate. https://sites.google.com/site/tveaglescouts/steps
The following is a list of people you could consider as your Eagle Coach within our Troop:
Mr. Gottschalk
Mr. McMillin
Mr. Biggee*
Mr. Andrew Lee*
*confirm if they were approved by Mrs. Z
We can also arrange to get you a coach from outside of our troop in the event you want to meet some of the other great Scout leaders in the area. Also, we are actively working on adding new coaches to our pool, so please check with me around the time you do your Eagle Packet meeting to see if the list has been updated.
Once you set up your Eagle packet meeting and meet with Mrs. Zollinger, you will get more explanation as to the role of this person, so you may want to hold off on making a selection until after that meeting. Also, I expect to see a copy of your Eagle packet BEFORE you request a packet review with the Troop committee for approval. Only after the review meeting with the committee will signatures be provided by the Committee Chair and Scoutmaster if everyone approves. Committee meetings only happen once a month, so factor that into your planning.
Let me know if you need any help. Good luck!
Mr. Markel
Scoutmaster, Troop 941
